When a tooth is removed (extracted) it is called an oral surgical procedure.
Examples of teeth needing extraction are:
- Severe, non-restorable decay
- Advanced periodontal (“gum”) disease
- A fractured tooth beyond reasonable repair
- A poorly positioned tooth in the mouth, such as a wisdom tooth
- When necessary to prepare for orthodontic treatment

Examples include:
Impacted wisdom teeth removal, corrective jaw surgery, removal of cysts/tumours and bone grafts.
