When a tooth is removed (extracted) it is called an oral surgical procedure.
Examples of teeth needing extraction are:

• Severe, non-restorable decay
• Advanced periodontal (“gum”) disease
• A fractured tooth beyond reasonable repair
• A poorly positioned tooth in the mouth, such as a wisdom tooth
• When necessary to prepare for orthodontic treatment

MAJOR ORAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES ARE REFERRED TO AN ORAL SURGERY SPECIALIST.

Examples include:

Impacted wisdom teeth removal, corrective jaw surgery, removal of cysts/tumours and  bone grafts.
